Back to the Slopes!

It’s hard to believe it is January 10th and today was only my second day on snow!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to test out the new ski boots I was fitted for at Heino’s (I won’t go anywhere else). I have such a love/hate relationship with ski boots. I hate how stiff and unforgiving they are, but I love how a stiff, tight fit allows even the most minute movements to be transferred to adjustments in pressure, edging, and balance!

As excited as I was to try out my new boots, I was only in them to shadow a new instructor teaching a beginner ski lesson. I have been teaching snow sports since the 2008-2009 ski season and yesterday my part time passion got even more serious as I was invited to become a snowboard trainer in training at Mountain Creek. It was such an unexpected surprise, that I didn’t even have my snowboarding gear with me. Without missing a beat, I ran in to pick up a rental board and boots to join in the training of new hires.

Eager to explore my new role, I went back in today on my day off. Three rewarding hours were spent in the rain working on switch riding. Now, each step I take is a delightful reminder of how effective and unique a workout snowboarding can be. I look forward to a season rich with new and challenging experiences, even if the weather set it off to a slow start. I like to thing the rainbow over the hotel at the base of the slope is an indicator of good things to come!
