- Start: David Logan Shelter
- End: Inn at the Long Trail via rt 4 mile 166.1
- Total: 13 miles
Today I didn’t cover as many miles as I hoped for, but the rain held out for the morning. I also delighted in arriving at the AT.
The rain started just as I approached Rt 4, which I decided was a sign that I should stop by the Inn and see if they had a room for me.
Luck was in my favor. I checked in, showered, and headed to the pub. A big juicy burger and Irish Whisky were in order. Delightfully full, I went back up to my room for a nap.
Feeling sufficiently rested, I headed back to the pub to check out the live music and eat more. This time I found myself in the company of two SOBO AT thru hikers, Too Many and Dirty Dan. We made fast friends. I couldn’t believe how much Too Many reminded me of Shakespeare and Dirty Dan reminded me of an amalgamation of most of my tramily.
The music in the pub was a local Irish band with traditional drums and strong voices. I enjoyed listening as I ordered another indulgent meal. The mushroom risotto was unbelievable. It came out with roasted cauliflower, stewed tomatoes, and asparagus on top of the risotto itself. All of this was layered on a bed of fresh spinach. The head from the risotto perfectly wilted the spinach while keeping it tasting fresh.
