Dirty Dan and I hitched a ride into Rutland with a lovely woman and her two daughters. She was kind enough to offer to take us to a wild goose chase as I tried to track down some leukotape for those blisters. After all of our stops she gave me a $20 bill asking if she could buy us lunch. The people are what make this experience what it is.

Dirty Dan and I stopped into the Yellow Deli.

He checked into their hiker hostel. Then we walked around the downtown farmers market. The trail magic and delicious food were abundant. The bearded man from the local Coop showered us with samples of beeswax wrapping, sleep oil, and spiced cashews. I also indulged in homemade empanadas.

Before long Dirty Dan and I had to split ways. Now my friend was picking me up so I could shower and do laundry at his friend’s place. Unfortunately this was not as straightforward as it seemed. She did not get out of work until 7 and it seemed as though they were looking to party. After a few more hours of aimless wandering he offered to let me nap in his car. We then drove 3 hours before I started getting nauseous. As politely as a I could, I explained I wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to dampen the mood and asked him to drop me back off at the Inn.

I spent another night there. I was looking forward to getting back on trail.
