Day 22

August 9, 2018

  • Start: Spruce Peak Shelter
  • End: Story Spring Shelter mile 237.3
  • Total: 18.3 miles

Today was fun! Little Foot and I had some girl talk for the first hour or two. We then caught up to Classy at Prospect Rock. I had flashbacks. This is where I first met Twirl, SJ, Dabbles, and Journey. Even though we didn’t start hiking together at that time I smiled remembering the encounter.

Classy, Highwater, Little Foot and Fire, and I took a nice luxurious break along Stratton Pond and again at the ever important fire tower atop Stratton mountain.

While most of the day I hiked solo greeting these friends as our paces varied was a bright spot. I did hike the last couple of miles with Classy. We shared laughs and even some lifesavers.

At the shelter, there were so many people! I was a little bummed initially, but during dinner I again had some great conversations. One gentleman and I talked Adirondacks and the Northville Placid Trail. Another gentleman was there with his teenage daughter. I really enjoyed talking to her. I was impressed with her. When I asked what or who the driving force for the trip was, I learned it was her! Although admittedly her dad took the idea and ran with it, it was her idea. They were really sweet to watch interacting.
